About me
Julia Fixsen
Hi! My name is Julia, I'm a holistic counsellor and I'm so glad you're here.
I’ve lived a disembodied life full of personal traumas and exhaustion. My long experience with these led me to the therapeutic field as a way to support my own emotional journey and reach a deeper, more connected relationship with myself.
As a serial seeker and a deep feeler, I inherently knew from a young age that my connection with myself, my body and a higher power had immense healing potential. While fighting through my darkest places, mindfulness, meditation and somatic practices came into my life as powerful healing tools that gave me hope and relief from the pain. This brought me to integrate these, and more, into my practice.
I believe we are all on a journey to remember who we are and to live our truth. This is a powerful and sacred journey that can sometimes shake us to the core. I also know that within each of us is the power to heal, and this healing from within is the only way we can start to heal ourselves, our families and our communities.

I believe that a fully embodied life involves the mind, body and spirit so I work to create a welcoming space for you to share your story while feeling supported. Together we will come to understand where you are now and most importantly where you want to be as I support you on your journey back to your truest self

When I am not in the office, you might find me spending time in nature, hiking, hanging out with my family and chasing my crazy dogs around.

HOW I WORK
My integrative approach combines different techniques for an experience that is as unique as you are. No two souls are the same and I believe that no two healing approaches should be the same either. My approach is gentle, heart centred and mindfulness based. Every part of you is welcome here: your fears, joy and excitement, your sorrow and dreams, your anxieties and desires.

I help my clients to identify and manage their emotions so they can understand how this affects their body. When people have experienced trauma, difficult situations and strong emotions, they tend to disconnect from their body as a way of escaping the pain they are feeling. Through our work together, I can help you reconnect with your body, have more self compassion and a greater sense of peace.
I will sit with you in your darkest and happiest spaces with loving presence and safety. I am here to help you tap into your inner wisdom and strength so that you are able to unlock your innate power to heal and change your life.

I blend modalities and techniques like Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, Attachment Therapy, Inner Relationship Focusing, Parts Therapy, Person Centred Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness and Meditation
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I’ve never been to therapy. What can I expect working with you?Congratulations on taking this first step! Therapy can feel overwhelming and even scary if you are new to it, so here are a few things about my practice that might help put your mind at ease. Come as you are. I welcome you just as you are and you don’t need to show up any other way than how you are right now. Your sessions are for you. You get to choose what to talk about and how deep you want to go. I will gently and respectfully challenge you in ways that might push you, but it will always be at your own pace while honouring your needs. We will work together to create a plan that is in agreement with your goals and values. This plan is flexible and can change over time as the counselling process evolves.

How many sessions do I need?Everyone’s experience is different and healing takes time. It is a process of self exploration, unlearning and unpacking that needs to take its course. We need time to build a trusting therapeutic relationship in order to create a safe space where we can safely go deeper into challenging topics. I recommend starting with five sessions as this will give you enough time to see if you feel comfortable with me and for me to see a full picture of how I can best support you.
-
How often do I need to come? This is also different for each person and there are no rules as to how often your sessions should be, but consistency is important inorder to see progress and results. I usually recommend weekly sessions to begin with, especially for clients who are in crisis or need more support. When you decide to book your sessions is your choice and there is plenty of flexibility to come up with a schedule that works for you.
